Inspired by the successful re-establishment of Colorado’s wine industry, and intrigued by the idea of bringing that excitement to Boulder, owners Mike, Jackie and son Will Thompson established Boulder Creek Winery in January 2003, producing an array of award-winning, Old World style wines.
We source our grapes from Colorado’s Western Slope, a more than century-old region that produces a variety of premium grapes including Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Syrah, Viognier.
Principal winemaker, wife Jackie Thompson, has a long-cultivated interest in wine production. Of French heritage, winemaking was a traditional home activity growing up in northern New England, and in 1981 she received a bachelors degree in Plant & Soil Science with a focus in wine grapes. After years of home wine production following by numerous classes in wine making and wine chemistry at UC Davis in California, Jackie assumed the role of Enologist and Principal Winemaker for Boulder Creek Winery.
Husband Mike Tho
mpson also brings extensive wine experience to the company. A wine steward for the renowned Student Prince Restaurant in Springfield, Ma., in the late 1970s, and a home brewer since the early 1980s, Mike has also traveled the world, experiencing wines from nearly all of the world’s major wine producing regions. An extensive knowledge of fine wines combined with a well-cultivated palate make Mike’s sensory evaluation skills an integral part of Boulder Creek’s winemaking process.
Son Will Thompson is the Assistant Winemaker at the winery where he is learning the secrets of making award-winning wine. Involved in the winery since the age of 13, Will is also enrolled at the University of Colorado in Boulder where he is studying Pre-Med and Film.
